It has been a while since the last time I actively posted to my site. An active little boy, a long commute, the descent into renal disease with the eventuality of dialysis, and my kidney/pancreas transplant robbed me of both the physical time and motivation to actively post long form streams of conciousness or even basic thoughts.

When I returned to posting last week, one of the first things I wanted to do was change my site’s theme. My previous theme Chateau was a great theme, but the site needed a change. Boy, was I in for a rude surprise.

Domain Name Change Coming

I’m not really sure why it takes 6 days for the “registrar” to approve the domain name transfer given that I crossed all the t’s and properly dotted all the i’s, but it apparently does take that long.  So sometime on or after Friday, the domain name will change to

While I have been assured that no shenanigans will ensue, one can never really tell, can they?  I’ve been assured that all the permalinks will change properly, and I’m hoping for a painless transition.

Chateau Theme Borked [RESOLVED]

One of the reasons I’ve switched to from a self-installed blog on shared hosting to a hosted blog on WordPress is that I got tired of two things.  I was tired of having to constantly upgrade my server / blog / OS software.  I was also tired of having to constantly fix issues with broken or modified themes.

Imagine my surprise this morning when I put up a featured post (about the Domain Name Change) and finding that doing so completely removed the post before it from the front page.  I sent an forums request off to WordPress, and so far they have been responsive.  While the post has now re-appeared, there is still an issue with no dated post showing on the front page if a featured article is there.

I’m hopeful that WordPress can fix this issue with the Chateau theme, I don’t want to have to edit the CSS myself, that might make me kind of cranky.

[RESOLVED] – WordPress tied the front page option to the archive choice in theme options.  Very clever fix, thank you WordPress!
